This is one of my auto timers but I'm British so yours will be a bit different. Anyways I thought it might help.

Alright I changed 50% of water fed him and put the towels over is it fine to cover the filter with the towel and also the towel absorbed some water so I hope that's not an issue

That will be fine and you've turned the lights off as well ?

Yes the lights are off and does this day count as the first day without lights or no

Yes it should be with lights and electrical and no this wouldn't count as the first day it needs to be full days.

I think seek was a typo for peek, if you keep peeking under the towel you'll let light in and that's what you're trying to avoid.

Yeah I mean peek, I speak french, so I have bad english
