About a month and a half ago, we moved everything and everyone over from our 10g tank to our 20g tank. Filter, sand, décor, fish and 25% of the water.

Well, 2 weeks ago we bought a new filter. We had an aquatech 10-20 filter and an aqueon quiet flow 10 on the 10g then they were moved to the 20g. We replaced both with an aquatech 30-60 filter. We took both filter cartridges from the two older filters and put them behind the new filter cartridges (this big filter needs two cartridges! heh) in the new filter.

I still have yet to test the tank with my API test kits, but we have continued doing 25% weekly water changes.

How long would it take to seed the new filters? We want to make sure all is good in the 20g before we put the old cartridge back in the 10g tank.

We want to put the old cartridge back in the 10g tank once our new filter cartridges are seeded. Would that make the 10g tank instantly cycled? Right now the 10g tank has the aqueon filter in it, cycling water, but no cartridge. There are two snails in there, gravel, and some java moss and décor. We plan to put either 10 ember tetras in there, or 2-5 platies in there once it is cycled. We would not do this all at once; five ember tetras OR two platies at first, then a week or two later, five more ember tetras or two to three more platies so we do not overwhelm the tank.

:) It is! Need to check the 10's water quality soon & top off the water or better, a small water change.
