Yes once they are free swimming for a couple days he will. I would remove him and leave her with the fry. She will keep them together and shimmy into the substrate to stir up small food particles for them. After the first spawn male left the female alone and wasn't aggressive towards her at all. They both scooped up fry and spit them them with the others and did everything together. After the first spawn was free swimming though, she did take a beating.
 
I've also heard of people separating a fourth of the tank with a divider that has a few holes just big enough for the female to fit through but not the male so if he does get to aggressive the female has somewhere to go to get away. I've never owned cichlids beside angels so not sure if that will work... Just an idea
