So, i took a trip to the store and I've settled on a 65 litre tank. Anyway in a few weeks it will be time to start stocking it. I've brought a heater, so I can think about tropical fish aswell, which broadens my options. Anyway I was wondering if some of you could give me some examples of fish combinations and numbers to help me decide what to get. When I was looking the many types of tetra caught my eye as did the colourful little guppies. But are there other choices? I dont know much about fish and I want to check that the ones I get are compatible.
Thank you in advance

yes :) I've read about it on a few different sites, i'll be sure to make sure the levels are right before introducing any fish. I'm hoping not to have a repeat of the last time I kept an aquarium

Well, thank you, that sure saved a bunch of rambling! The guppies are cool, just get males though unless you want babies, you could also do a Betta or some African Dwarf frogs. As centerpiece fish, rams could work, just not a pair since they are territorial when breeding. Really it all comes down to what you want that'll fit!

there are thousands of options you can choose from, personally i like mollys and platties, they are cheep easy to take care of colorful and easy to find. but if you dont make sure to get the same gender you will have many many many babies. What stores do you have access to and what do they carry. Are you willing to buy online?

I have 3 stores near me specialising in aquariums, each of them with roughly 50 tanks, so there were a few to many to remember all of the names. They did stock most of the fish mentioned so far in this thread, but no frogs.

I havn't really thought about buying online, it could definatly be an option, but how do you make sure the websites are good ones, what should I look out for if I do decide to buy online?
