I need advice. I have one feeder goldfish who survived my fish-in cycling. Pet store said they'll take him back, but they'll likely just resell him as a feeder fish. I kinda feel responsible for him and don't want to give him back.

Problem is this is a planted tank and I plan to have Boesemani rainbowfish, amano shrimp, and some Cory's. I don't think he'd do well for long in that environment either. Or would he?

I love goldie's. I want to do right by him.

I think main consideration for me would what type of goldfish and size tank you have? I’ve seen some of the comets get very big.

I have a 40g long and he's only an inch or so right now. Even if I stocked my other fish as planned he'd still have some growing room.

Maybe if I kept him til he outgrew being bait lfs would take him back as a pond koi?
I just don't want him to be another fishes dinner.
