I'll be honest, i want to start a culture, but have no idea how. Any quick easy ways to do this?

Thanks. That's the method im trying currently. Using a relish jar and some lettuce. But like i said I've never done this before and Idk if i did it right. Plus its hard to get a good spot for sunlight in town.

South facing windows are usually your best bet.

Im assuming u boil the water to remove chlorine. Would adding a dechlorinator work instead?

I would do both. You might be boiling water to kill any bad bugs that might be in your water.

Add dechlorinator, let sit for a bit, then boil and start the culture.

Well i assume my first attempt failed. *facepalm* Its been four days and the water has a sour smell... Haven't noticed it clearing up at all...any ideas?

If you start again, leave the other one to sit for a bit longer. It might take longer than you're expecting.

What kind of mulch stuff did you use for it?

Lettuce. I might try banana peel next.

I've heard hay might also work well.
