Hi All,

I came across this fantastic website over the weekend, & have learned some great tips & advice already! I am a 3 month newie to owning my dream freshwater tropical aquarium - a 108 litre octagonal tank. I have been advised to hold off on getting new fish, but the hobby is just so interesting (and costly!). I have numerous guppies (15+), of which most females seem to be pregnant, a handful of mollies and platties, 8 Neon, 5 Serpei Tetras, 7 male Dwarf Gouramis, Harlequin Rasboras, Ruddynose Tetras, Zebra Danios, 1 Bristlenose, 3 Clown Loach, and 2 Corydoras. Yes, quite a community!

As I was cleaning my filter yesterday, I found 6 babies, still all alive in the gunk! I had to delicately spoon them out with a teaspoon, & now have them in the "baby nursery" box, within the tank. One of my female Endler Guppies is pregnant (from what I have compared to my research), so I have place her in the top compartment of the baby nursery box. Could someone please let me know, from the picture, if she is indeed pregnant? If so, what would be the estimated time frame before she drops? I just don't want to keep her in there for weeks if she's still a long way off. Also, the 6 babies (guppies or platties) are still so small (like 3 day old tadpoles), and are at the bottom of the breeding box. Will they end up eating the new babies if the female drops over the week?
Many thanks in advance for any advice!

Thanks. I've released her back into the tank with the others. I've just seen that one of my red flame dwarf gouramis was laying on his side on the bottom of the tank, so I have put him in the top of the box. Hope he makes it through the night. The babies in the compartment below him don't seem to mind that he's laying above him.

Hi Ducatiman,

My female guppy's still going, no signs of dropping yet! In fact, most of my females (guppies, mollies, & platties) all seem to be pregnant! I can't tell which of them will drop soon, so best I can do is watch all closely, & look for any signs of fry to house in the nursery box. I have 6 babies in there right now, which I found in the filter last week!

Unfortunately, my dwarf gourami didn't make it. I also lost 2 female guppies, & 2 of platties...so 5 fish in 1 week.

All others seem happy & healthy. Water quality has been spot on, & treated with prime, as well as Easy Life filter media. Guess I just need to put it down to a bad week for my tank :-(

Thanks for checking in!

Uh-oh! They all seem pretty happy & lively though. I've a pretty good filter - Unimax 150, & have been using Prime & Easy-life regularly. Water parameters are also very much spot-on, luckily enough.

I've been wanting to do a stock count, though because they all move so quickly, it hasn't been easy. I log all new fish when I've introduced them to the tank, & take a note of the ones I have lost...though need to update the list.

Sorry to say this, but your tank in overstocked. Clown loaches reach 8 to 12 inches. Maybe should make a different thread talking about your stock to see if other people have different advice. But, you should really re-home at least the clown loaches.
To answer your question, no, your guppy girl does not look gravid. She will not drop any fry anytime soon. Fry of similar sizes typically do not beat up on each other. I have had guppy fry of various ages together without an issue.
Welcome to the forum.
