I made a change to my tank today that I would like to show off a bit. I tinted the exterior glass on the back and sides with 35% vlt tint. I had some laying around I had bought to put on my car, until I decided that it was a pain to do yourself. Nice flat, square (or rectangle) glass is much easier. There are a couple spots that the tint didn't adhere to the glass quite right, but its only in the bottom corners.

I like that you can still see in from the sides, but when you look through the front pane you're not immediately looking at the light switch on the wall behind the tank!

The aquascaping, plants, etc. are all still a work in progress. The tank has only been up and running since Dec. 26 (and been through a couple changes already as we decided what we really want).

I am putting three pictures with the glass tinted and one from before it was tinted. The before picture also has less plants in the tank.

Anyways, enjoy.

I can't stop tinkering. Added some wood.
Its a piece of plum wood. My dad had a plum tree that a storm took out last year and had been sitting on the burn pile since.

Cutting it to size.

Its the finnex planted + 24/7.
We really like it. We are getting decent growth on most plants and some are really shooting up. I really like that one you have it set to the 24/7 mode you never have to think about it again.

Thanks! I have 4 shop lights that I high heat spray painted black but I'm still interested in switching to that!

So I haven't posted on here for a while. I've had some ups and downs with the tank.
All my plants started melting. Nothing, except the plants that were already tall were doing very well.

Finally decided that I needed more light. Threw a second led light on top, pulled the dying plays, floated the ones that were doing okay, and planted some more sword plants. Its been a couple weeks. That's what the tank looks line presently.

Nice tank! really like the driftwood :)

55 gallon elephant nose tank.
30 gallon shrimp and snail tank

Thank you. I'm hopeful I can remove the bags of gravel soon. The piece on the right was added at the top and allowed to float till it water logged and sank. I'm just waiting a while longer to make sure the larger piece stays put.

Enjoyed the video. A lot going on in there (but not too busy). Mad dash to the camera by the curious danio and angel at around 1:15 is cool.

Lol yeah the angels in particular are not shy! I've done a lot of fiddling in the tank, so my hands have been in there a lot. They swim right up to my arms while I'm planting/trimming etc.

What do ya think? Time to trim the plants? I've been neglecting then for a while apparently.

It depends on if the excessive growth is blocking the light for other plants and if it fits the look you are going for. It's a healthy sign though.

Those two aren't blocking all the light, but there are others. I was just surprised how long they got so quickly.

You must be doing something right. I generally trim and replant. I have this weird thing about plants trailing along the surface.

That's what I'll do. I'm moving towards having a heavily planted tank. It's nice when a trimming is almost full grown already
