Live plants and no air pump

Is it true that in a successful planted aquarium, you do not need a air pump?

This is a fact. Oxygen is a plant byproduct. That means the plant wants to get rid of it. By adding an airstone, you add a bit of oxygen to the plants' environment. The more oxygen in the water, the less the plants like it. An airstone and airpump contribute little or nothing to running the tank.

An air pump also creates a lot of surface aggetation which will cause a loss of co2 that is in the water column. Healthy plants and your filter SHOULD provide enough o2 for the fish.
