Im starting a new tank, and my brother has some oceanic rock that was once live, but not anymore. Then in his tank, he has some live rock. He says that if i put some of the dead live rock in my tank, along with some living live rock, that the live will "regenerate" the dead rock, and it will all become live rock. Is this true? Thanks

absoloutly. Any rock you put in with the addition of beneficial bacteria becomes "live." Just make sure the old rock is rinsed well adn fit for the tank. A bit of rock and maybe a bit of sand from his established tank is a great start!

Good Luck!

this makes me happy cause he has about 20 lbs of dead rock. which will save me about 100 buckaroos! :D

Yes this is definitely a good way to save money but it does take a little while for the rock to seed depending on how much live rock you have. Good luck and have fun setting up the new tank.
