My father and i were discussing this over thanksgiving. We live in an area that has a TON of Manzanita. We have two creeks that run on our property and were thinking of burying a 500 gallon water tank(not exact size but will suffice for description) in one and sink a ton of manzanita in there for the whole winter. This wood would be gotten from plants that are currently living. would this be enough time for the wood to leach a decent amount of tannins and be ready for the aquarium?
Thanks in advance

You need to do periodic water changes. Try and rig it up so that there is some sort of a drainage pipe in the tank bottom so you can easily change it all.

we would do it in a way where it would constantly be flowing in and out of the tank. ultimately always being pretty fresh water
