Is mixing up subtrate bad for a tank?

its a mix of live sand and regular sand

No need to stir it up on a regular basis. A good clean-up crew and some sifting critters will help out.

well i need a good clean up crew, and i dont hardly ever do it, but i have had a lot of nasty algae in my tank lately. I've heard that mixing it up is bad, i just wanted to know if it is true and why its bad.

What type of algae are you having trouble with? Most nussance algae is a sign of excess nutrients in the water. Have you checked NO3 and PO4 lately?
