Their gestation period (time their pregnant) is generally around 4 weeks (28 Days). I would move her to a separate tank the day before you think se is going to give birth, because the other fish will eat her fry.

thank you any idea how id tell shes about to pop. do u recommend the breeding nets/boxes for side ov tank

As she looks round now.. later she will begin to have more of a box shaped figure from a side and maybe even frontal view. Breeding boxes/nets are a good way to go.. its easy to separate her when the fey come and the fry can meet their tank mates as tgey grow. What size tank do you have besides your community? I have a betta tank 1.8 gallon for my fry. As of right now i have 1 female with only days to go in that 1.8 gallon.. so the fry have some good room to swim and get strong before goin back to the community. She seems to be less stressed. Ive never had problem with the breeder net but the box seems to freak her out

iv been reading in 2 the breeder box/nets and alot mixed reviews. my other tanks a 20gal

new updated pics 2day shes gne massive.. how much longer?

Your Molly

Hello mik...

Nice fish. Dalmatian Mollies, aren't they? I keep "Livebearers" too. These fish feel most comfortable in heavily planted thanks. The fry will immediately go to the surface for a quick breath and need some floating plants, like Brazilian waterweed (Anacharis).

The female will hold off giving birth until conditions are just right. I'd keep the water as pure as possible with large, weekly water changes and make the new water a bit warmer. If the female is close to giving birth, a lot of pure, warm water will help.

One other thing, if you're not using a bit of standard aquarium salt, you really need to. I add a teaspoon to every 5 gallons of new water. This is important, especially for fish that give birth to live young. The properties in the salt will strengthen the fishes' immune system. I've used it for years with good results.
