Most people swear that cichlids will destroy any plants either by uprooting them, eating them, or tearing them apart while they "personalize" their territories. This is my mixed African/Central American aquarium, going on 7 months now. Any comments or thoughts welcome. Thought i would share my successful "planted Cichlid" experience this far.

How big are your fish? I haven't had too much luck with larger south or Central American cichlids with plants. Looks good best of luck.

I have had luck also but I don't put to many plants in

Beautiful tank by the way

My fish sizes range anywhere from 2-5inches. Recently my two black convicts did spawn though and so far about 8 babies have survived out of 12 that I saw to begin with. Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!

Here are some of fish I have in the aquarium also

Again, thanks for viewing!

Sadly i have to admit. The blue Crayfish molted and was devoured by the cichlids and bichirs. Never did I think he would be threatened by the cichlids or bichirs but when it molted, at its weakest point, the bichirs started a frenzy and the cichlids joined in.

Pictures taken 11/12/2013. Plants are thriving. Running CO2 on tank, aerator 24/7, lights on 6 hours a day on timer. Fish are starting to get real big. Still proving people that cichlids with live plants are possible! Managing the ph levels is not hard. And these fish are really fun. Any question please feel free to ask.
