HI im new to this marine aquarium, mine has been set up now for 3 weeks is it normal for my rock to turn brown or do i need to do a water change and scrub the rocks ?? i have a yellow tang and a hermit crab in the tank

could be diatoms, common on newer set ups, from what I've heard diatoms feed off of silicates in the water column once the supply of silicates is exhausted no more diatoms, more or less you just have to wait it out.

Agreed, probably diatoms. I had them in my tank when I started. I got a few hermit crabs and snails it helped out a little. It will go away, and usually is a good sign that things are going well in your tank.

your tank is 3 weeks old

it isn't cycled yet

research is your friend

please return the tang to lfs till your tank is cycled

how big is your tank

tangs need 75 gal or larger tanks

diatoms are normal in a new tank

what are the water parameters
