Mystery Snail holding gravel. Is he okay?

Came back home from a short vacation and found our mystery snail on its back looking seemingly inflamed...
We picked him up and gave him a soft tap and he reacted so he's still alive. Tested the water - PH 8, No Nitrates, Ammonia, or Nitrites. Temp ~75.
We put him in a floating tray for a couple of minutes to give him some oxygen (spiral shell down, siphon up), and then placed him back down at the bottom. The attached photo is what he looks like now, turns out that he wasn't inflamed but he actually picked up a bunch of gravel and wrapped his body around it.
Is this normal snail behavior? He has just been sitting propped on his shell and wrapped around the gravel he picked up. His head tucked in and he hasn't moved at all/doesn't react very strongly when we shine light or tap him.

If anyone has ideas on what is going on/how we can help him we would really appreciate it!

My mystery snail does the same thing sometimes when there’s too much light on the tank. Turn the light off for a while and let him relax. He’ll come out of his shell soon enough. Also, I would lower the ph to like 7.5.

Mine did the same as well - likely defence against the yoyo loaches (they were too big for them by far but loaches very friendly!).
