I just joined the hobby and have a 6 gallon with the following measurements and light:

JBJ Lighting Aquarium Products

It has 6 white diodes and 12 blue ones. The fish store guy told me to keep all of them on (freshwater tank). Was that correct advice? 6 weeks in, only low light plants are doing somewhat ok and I have a massive diatoms outbreak to boot. I was wondering if I should buy a new light and if so, what kind? Price isn't really an issue, I just want something that works well for plants and makes my tank healthier.

Hi and welcome!

You have a very nice looking tank there, with low iron glass to boot! As for the light it seems like not enough white lights, says 7W.

I have a Spec V which looks similar and has 37 LEDs - Not sure how many Watts. Your light may be under powered.
