I have (so far) found three babies in my 29 gallon tank-two look more clear-slightly orange with huge eyes and another is more orange with a definite black tail. I have a massively pregnant dalmation molly (she was preg when I got her), but now I wonder if one of the other mollys or even one of my platys had some.

I'm sorry but I don't really know what kind of mollys I have other than orange with black tails and vivid orange ones...oh, and my dalmations. I have two mickey mouse platys also-one is white and one is orange/yellowish.

It's so exciting!

I'm only new to breeding but here's my input.

How long have you had the fish for? They can hold sperm inside and impregnate themselves for months after breeding. So if the fish are reasonably new their colouring of the babies/fry won't help in identifying the mother as they could look like their father from the pet shop.

It may be that the pregnant fish is still birthing, does she linger at the bottom of the tank a lot today?

Do you have males or all females?

I've had them for maybe a month-and my dalmation has started hiding this evening at the bottom of the tank, sitting very still...we are keeping a watchful eye on her but will leave her alone so she can do her thing.

I have a mixture of both sexes-didn't know a thing about identifying them until I got them home and started doing some research. I did make sure to get all male guppies.
