I have a couple of mystery snail tanks and am wondering what the acceptable nitrate level would be. It's currently at 30-40 ppm and seems to be consistently that high. Is this dangerous for the snails? They don't seem to be struggling.

I have a gravel cleaner - used weekly
20% water change bi weekly

40ppm nitrate is at the upper end of where you want nitrate to be for fish and i would say snails are more tolerant of less than ideal water parameters than fish. Those levels wont be causing any issues and you say yourself the snails are doing good.

Question would be why is the nitrate high. Im assuming you have fish in the tank also. Personally i would always want to change some water weekly, but if the nitrate levels are consistently at those levels your water change schedule looks good.
