I'm running a Glass Holes 700gph overflow and I'm wondering if the drain (non siphon) should be a perfectly vertical drop straight to the sump or if I should put a bit of an angle on the drain line? Which would produce less noise and allow more water flow? I'm planning on about 400gph of flow and the drain is 1.5".

Thanks,
Harry

Straight into the sump.
Below water level with slots cut into it to release/brake air IMO.
This will help with best flow.

I seen a set up at the reef shop they used a S shaped trap to slow the water keeping it from splashing and not stirring up the sump seemed to work nicely , it also had a shut off valve

I have the same kit on my 40 and I run it straight down into the sump. Well straight down and then 2 elbows
