I haven't exactly looked at the filer to hard but everyone knows it comes with the blue pads with the plastic filled with carbon attached to the back of it do I have to use these I have a couple sponges I bought for my aquaclear 70 that's just collecting dust can I just stuff the filter with these or maybe one of the sponges and a bag of biomax or really a couple bags would probably fit

does anyone use anything that's not a thin pad cut to the same size of the refills cause that's all I've been able to find people doing I don't care anything about the carbon filled plastic piece or I wont once my tank is cycled it im new to the penguin so im not sure of my options for this filter I've used a aquaclear for my other tank which can have anything that fits in it lol

If they will fit back there I dont know why you cant. I`ve seen people just take the blue and black filter medis and use that.
