Living in N. Florida, dollarweed is a scourge of lawns everywhere. its a constant battle, even Scotts Turf Builder Bonus S needs multiple applications. Anyway, I have not fertilized my lawn this year yet, but I did apply granular pesticide last weekend. I have crazy patches this winter of dollarweed, Hydrocotyle bonariensis.

It looks identical to "Brazillian Pennywort," Hydrocotyle leucocephala, except on my lawn the dollarweed is very short. I'm going to take a few rhizomes of dollarweed out of my yard and put it in my tank. (I didn't put any pesticide on my front lawn :) ).

Has anyone ever purchased pennywort as Hydrocotyle bonariensis or possibly a pennywort that wasn't "Brazillian"? What do you guys think?

Well I took a few lengths of pennywort from my yard and put them in my tank. They look real good, I think they will do well. I'll try and get some pics up soon.

Well, I did some further research and I'm afraid I was mistaken. I always thought what I was battling was dollarweed, which was not the case (which might explain why the weed killer didn't always take care of it).

What I have is Dichondra Carolinesis, commonly known as "Carolina Ponysfoot." The most obvious difference is that Dichondra leaves are smooth all around, while pennywort leaves have blunted margins. We'll see how the Dichondra does underwater, but I'm not as optimistic anymore.

I also have, what I believe to be, Chickweed that grows in my basil pots during the winter. I'll have to see if this does well submerged.
