Dont live plants help keep ammonia and the cycle going or do they have another purpose

No, they do nothing for the cycle. They do use ammonia as a source of N, but that does not mean the tank is cycled. Their purpose should be viewing pleasure, or possibly for the fish.

Sry my tank is cycled but had an ammonia hick up so I wasn't sure if plants help keep that down a bit or not

Yes, they can help with that, provided they have all the other nutrients they need.

Ok I just can't control this hick up I dont know why its doing it I was hoping the plants would help me lol
