Can someone help me ID this? It was found in a lake in eastern North Carolina.

It looks like hornwort but it's smaller, has roots, has different leaf alignment (2 per node) and doesn't have branched or fan-like leaves like cabomba does.

This picture has anacharis in the front for comparison. The plant in question is in the back:

This picture has anacharis at the bottom for size comparison:

You can also see some of the roots (long and white) in the above picture.

Any help would be appreciated. The leaves are slightly under a centimeter long.

That looks quite similar but what I have does not have toothed leaves like egeria Najas has.

Very cool though, I didn't even know there was such thing as narrow leaf anacharis.

This is a closer picture of the new growth.

I feel stupid because it looks a lot like hornwort from far away but the leaves are straight, not curved, and smaller than hornworts are. Also, it has roots.

Anybody have a clue?

Maybe star grass. Maaaybe. Throw a close up pic in.

Could be. I'll look at other heteranrhera species later. Isn't this too small though? It's leaves are under a cm long.

After browsing on TPT the other day I found a similar looking plant, googled around a bit, and found that this is mayaca fluvialitis!

I'd never even heard of that.
