Hi guys. I have a planted tank that needs weekly w/c. I am going away for a 24night holiday. I have family who can pop in and feed the fish but they wouldnt know where to start with a w/c.

What should I do?

I do have access to another tank, would it help if I out the fish in a separate tank for feeding without w/c? And just leave the planted tank to its own devices for the 24nights?

Thanks.

24 days is a loong time. I might get 2 trash cans. Fill 1 with treated water and leave the other empty. Just tell them to fill the empty trash can and refill from the other. One water change should be okay at day 12 although I would cut back on the ferts a little.

I would also do 2 back to back water changes just to get concentrations as low as possible.

Also set your lights on timers so they only run 4-6 hours. If you have to have ferts added I'm fix the amounts in baggies and mark each baggie with what it is and when it gets dosed.

Same with feeding the fish. Either get a automatic feeders and test it for a week before you leave to ensure it's putting the right amount of food in the tank or again use baggies or something to put each day's food in so the tank doesn't get overfed.

A weekly pill box would be your best bet to keeping them from feeding too much food.

Sorry for slow reply. Internet went down so no wifi for phone. Thanks for advice. Im worried about the lights coz im running for 6 hours at the mo. But last tried a bit less my hc started to turn bad as its still relatively young.

U guys thing 70% day before and day after will be ok? I have a friend to feed fish.

If you feed very lightly you could probably get away with it. After your WC when you get home you'll have to check the parameters and possibly do a 2nd WC depending.

Okie doke. Will keep my fingers crossed.
