Planting outside my tank

I was thinking that if I could get a glass/pyrex rectangular oven tray of an adequate size I could sit my 10usg in it and plant around the outside. Hopefully I could get one where the sides are deep enough for some water as well as soil/substrate so I could keep some kind of boggy/semi-aquatic plants around the tank. Has anyone tried this?

not exactly,but im trying to grow pothos in the filter on my 10,i think your idea will work pretty good
