Please ID aquarium plant

A friend gave me a small slip of a aquarium plant that was given to her. She is not having good luck with it. So I would like to find out what it is so I can get it to grow because I have many aquariums. I've looked on the net but I'm not finding it. Plus she gave me these little green floating things that looks like a mini leaf lettuce. Any ideas? Thanks

My guess would be hornwort.

The photo I believe is hornwort. The little lettuce floating things might be duckweed. Hard to know with out a picture.

Hornwort grows best when it is floated. At least that us what the plant gal at the lfs said.
