In the summer at my lake it's basically all sea weed which is kinda gross, but I was thinking maybe when they grow again when the lake melts, I could put some in my aquarium. I know there's lots of bacteria that live in lakes/ponds so I was wondering if anyone knows the safest way to introduce lake plants (if its safe at all) to my tropical fish tank

Here's the creek that runs in it from the summer

I wouldn't worry so much about bacteria, but perhaps other contaminants. You can do a hydrogen peroxide dip to be safe. That will take care of most any problems.

Will the peroxide damage the plants at all?

Another option would be a potassium permagnate dip. For tougher plants, a dilute bleach dip (1 part bleach to 19 parts water). Bacteria isnt an issue but just be wary of nasty hitchhikers- this why disinfecting them is important before using them. :)

Ok that's sounds like a good idea. There's so many plants for FREE so why bother buying them? And they're nice looking too
