Ponds ???

So my family is thinking about getting a pond and i was wondering if you guys can tell me some stuff I should know To keep a pond

1. What filter should I get ?
2. What fish ( besides koi's and goldfish ) can be In there ( coldwater fish )

And you could tell me other stuff I should now too

Ponds take lots of planning, planning and more planning. What size do you have in mind? Climate where you reside? Fish in mind? Predators in your region? Are you going to DIY or hire someone? Aboveground or inground? Plans for where to put the dirt? Things like trees, roots, gas or underground utility lines? Also realize you will likely need permits and underground electrical service is must (more permits and contractor unless you are an electrical contractor). What type of filtration will depend on size and stocking among various other factors. Just a few of many, many things to consider....

Best decision I made was to get an expert to build our pond.
JLK covered a lot of the things to consider.

In the end you want it to be part of the landscape.

Where I live you can did a hole and it is a pond.
