The sponge filter is great for a QT tank, the problem is getting it cycled and loaded with bacteria. As far as HOB filters go. The new API superclears are pretty awesome. It doesn't hurt to have a large filter either, (like if your using a 10g tank, a 20g filter)
The Aquatop filter is pretty sweet too, a little more expensive, but it comes with an inline UV flitter, and surface skimmer. Some meds require you to turn off any UV filter/skimmer.

The best answer I can think, is just keep it simple. You want to make sure you have enough bio to deal with waste and such, but when quarantining, and especially treating, the simpler the better.

Thanks everyone I will keep all of this in mind if I ever have the need for one in the future too much money for me at the time just spent a bunch on starting a shrimp tank.
