Question on fertilizing

I plan on starting a bare bottom tank with only floating plants (Water Spangles) Should I fertilize the plants right away or wait for the tank to cycle before adding any fertilizer?

All I can think of is the ferts might give you false readings. I had an ammonia spike once that was putting in too many substrate tabs. Tank was still actually cycled. Just a thought.
