My yo-yo Loach started breathing very rapidly yesterday and sat at the bottom of the tank. It’s gills are looking quite red and I’m worried about him. The other loaches and fish all seem completely fine.

I checked water levels and they all seem normal, I did a large water change yesterday and another smaller one today just in case.

Could anyone help me figure out what might be wrong and how to treat? Because of this lockdown I don’t have a hospital tank to move him into.

Can you see any tiny worms or anything moving around on them?

What was the Ammonia level?
Nitrite
Nitrate

pH?

Tank temp?

What size tank?
Filter type?

Airstone?

Do you know if your tank is cycled? Familiar with the nitrification cycle?
If not, the Aquarium Advice article in my signature is a really useful resource for general tank keeping.

How long has the tank been set up?

Have you recently - few weeks, added any fish? Or plants?

Have you changed the filter pad recently? Or rinsed it out in tap water that was not dechlorinated?

Does your fish have any salt grain looking specks on him?
