Last i heard, hammers, frogs, and torches don't like to be placed in the sand.. they like being high up near the lights on the rocks. I think that anywhere you keep it, as long as it has its distance would be fine. Just not in shadey areas where it can't get the light it needs to complete photosynthesis. But yeah, austinsdad is right. My hammer has some pretty long tentacles when i shut the lights off, so i gave him his own corner on the rocks. Does perfect and looks better than ever.
 
Euphyliids are available from several different reef environments including softened substrates in deeper waters and, of course, depending on location. Most likely the corals we purchase will not be placed in the aquarium as replicated in their environment because such data logging isn't available and probably too time consuming, so feel free to experiment and see what characteristics your corals develop.
