Repurposing Canister Filters?

I recently picked up a SW setup with 2 canister filters. I'm doing a sump and was wondering about repurposing these canisters for chemicals or something. I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can use them for. Thanks!

Run them empty as expensive, giant, external powerheads

Seriously... that's what the guy was doing with them that I got this from! He had a 20gallon sump and was using these for the returns
