salt?!

I have a 60 gallon tank set up since may. Several people at specialty stores recommend salt while their employees and coworkers say no. Some of my fish are balas, peacock eel and a pictus catfish. Salt or not???

ABSOLUTELY no salt on smooth skinned fish like eels and catfish. Salt was used by us old timers way back when Voo Doo mysteries and guesswork was all we had to go on due to the lack of real knowledge. The salt theory has been the longest lived of these. The "balanced aquarium theory" where you never do water changes is another one hanging on but thankfully is dying quick. OS.

I second that. No salt unless you're treating a specific disease, and then it should be a bath and not a whole tank treatment.
