I am looking at switching my substrate to aragonite white sand or something of similar buffering quality.

Where do you buy it from? I really would like to avoid paying an arm or leg in shipping costs?

And do you know of anything with similar buffering attributes?

Post Script: I want to avoid "live" sand as the sand is probably no longer live with no food for the bacteria.

My pfs ran 8 bucks for 50 lbs but I'm not sure on its buffering ability.

I got the dry aragonite from petsmart9had 25lb bags for $11 at the time)

I did some research on the sand my local pet store sells and its dry aragonite so I am going to go with that. Any ideas for sand sifters

Nassarius snails, if you have a monstrous tank with <78 degree water horseshoe crab (DONT GET IT!) sand sifting stars. I would recommend the snails though because the stars eat beneficial stuff in your sand. GL!!!!!

Aragonite sand will not do any buffering in a saltwater system. For aragonite to dissolve and do any buffering, the pH has to be around 7.3 or lower. If your pH is that low in a saltwater system you have major problems.
