Slate Question

So I'm breaking and splitting some slate for my aquarium and noticed when I split a sheet to make several thinner sheets there is a gold/bronze color in between the layers of rock. What is this and is it something I should worry about or scrub off or something?

Slate is made up of several different minerals the color causing the color to vary. It has to do with how the slate was formed it probably has more pyrite in it.
