So my tank is well and firmly established, and now I'm noticing lots of funky stuff crawling around like itty bitty things that look like bits of sand moving too fast to be snails (BTW: my tank is betta friendly--no current). So I shrugged those off as a figment of my imagination. HOWEVER, today, what was crawling (inching) it's way across my crypt leaf....? Yep, a sluggy thing. It was probably only about .5 cm long, but it definitely was not a snail or a fish.

I have a freshwater tropical tank BTW.

Could it be a slug?

Sounds like planaria. Google should bring up lots of images for you to compare.

I agree with Joy. Most likely planaria. I have had it before usually near the beginning of setting up a tank. In my experience the fish end up eating them and they otherwise die off as conditions in the tank stabilize.
