Do you need to have a very fine sand bed to have these guys?

Jumping in here, lol, are these guys ok in a few month old tank? I was looking at the sand sifting stars. :)

Sure, they are a great addition to a clean up crew. BUT, in your case I would think twice about exactly what I was buying. Some scavenge the pods from the sand and rock.

I recently had a pod explosion in my tank. lol There are thousands on my glass and rock lately.

Hi does the sand have to be suger size sand or can it be more grainy so it doesn't blow around as much

@carey. Pods will self regulate their numbers the explosion is only temporary. The numbers will soon drop. A mandarin can eat its weight in pods every day (or so it seems).

So would 80ibs of suger sized sand be enough for a 72 gallon?
