Starting to put plants in

So I want to start slowly adding plants but don't know anything about it. Food for the plants? Certain lighting? I have substrate for the bottom of my floor right now. I have a 46 gal freshwater if that has anything to do with plants lol. Certain plants you recommend?

Java Ferns are super easy. i grew one with just a table light for light.
