I purchased a new 60 about 4 months ago. I am already on impeller 3.

The first one going bad was thought to be that I somehow abused it and the shaft got either bent or scratched. It still pumped OK but you could not hold a conversation in the same room with the tank, it was that loud.

The 2nd one lasted 3 weeks and started making noise.

I took the original impeller apart and noticed that the stainless shaft is actually worn on the end where the magnet is located. I checked the 2nd impeller and it is worn in a similar fashion.

I temporarily fixed them by reversing the shaft. What was the bottom (worn) is now on the top. It seems that when the shaft wears thin, the magnet hub has some extra play in it and it vibrates on the shaft as it spins.

I was curious if any other owners of this filter have had similar issues and if so, how can this problem be corrected or at least minimized to prolong the life of the impeller? They are only $8 or so but having to replace the unit every 6-8 weeks will get costly over time.
