My friend has a ten gallon and is letting the tank cycle right now. ATM he is figuring out what kind of fish he wants. He really wants tiger barbs. Is that ok, if so how many can he have. Will they nip a common pleco.

Ok. Tiger barbs should IMO not be in a ten gallon. Given the fact that they need to be in schools and like a ton of swimming room. Also, is that common pleco going in the tank once it is cycled? Common plecos SHOULD NOT be in a ten gallon. They get over a foot long and will be overall a very bad decision for a ten gallon.

No. Tiger Barbs need a 20-30g minimum IME. They get pretty chunky as adults and need swimming room. The larger the group the better. Or they may kill each other off if you only have 3 or 4.

Common Plecos need BIG tanks.

No Pleco should be in a 10g.

Keep researching. 10g are best with either Cherry Shrimp or Small fish like Ember Tetras.
