Earlier this month I noticed that the edges of my male double-tail betta's tail fins had begun to fade. He ate well, was swimming fine and active as usual.
About a week and a half ago I noticed a tear in his bottom fin, but figured he had just cut it on the bushy plastic plant in the tank that he preferred to rest on. I took that out and put in a live crypt, but the tear has grown worse and the fin looks ragged around the edges. Is this fin rot? Or is the tear just spreading? The tank is five gallons and planted with some 'betta bulbs' and a crypt.
Should I take him out and treat him as a precaution?
I tried to snap some pictures of him, but he was not having any of that and started racing around the tank.
