I brought home a couple trapdoor snails the other day... and I now have 7 little babies! I'm not trying to breed them, it just happened.

How long do they take to reach full size?

What kind of trapdoor snail?

Apples will get to 1" or so in 3-6 months at my tank temp (low 70's). They grow faster at warmer temp. <That is assuming they are well fed ....>

I think they are "japanese" trapdoor snails - just the run of the mill kind. They're about an inch in diameter. The babies are less than 1/4 inch and there's no eggs, just instant babies LOL

I was just curious about how long it takes for them to get the size of their parents and when they start reproducing - I have heard the lifespan for them is only about 2-3 years so they must grow fairly fast.

Those are really cute babies!

Japanese trapdoor snails (Viviparus malleatus) are live bearers, so you won't see eggs. The good thing is that they only have a few babies at a time, so you won't get overran like the Pomacea's (Apples).

Well, I got them on Friday and now have 14 babies... so I am going to move all of them into their own tank and just keep the adults in there. The idea was to have them help keep the fry tank clean and now they've just up and taken over, sometimes I forget there are fish in that tank!
