Hey guys. So I bought an 85 gallon tank to move my african cichlids into and I have just one question. The person that sold it to me said that he kept turtles in it. I've heard that turtles can carry salmonella. The tank has been dry for more than four months and I was wondering if salmonella would be able to survive that long after drying out? If so what can I use to disinfect the inside of this tank before adding fish?

If you are really worried about it then you can use a 9 part water to 1 part bleach solution to clean the tank. After cleaning the tank let it dry out and air out for a few days and the bleach will be gone. Otherwise, I wouldn't be terribly worried about it.

I agree. Fish tanks can also harbor salmonella so there wouldn't be a difference. In addition, I dont think the salmonella can live that long without a host.
