The story ends. He died a little while ago. I cried a lot, because I am lame like that.
I don't understand what happened, I fed him a few hours ago and he was fine.

I'm so frustrated. I had him in a10g with a divider to keep him away from the hob filter. But it looks like there were some places he could sneak past. I found him on the filter side, being rushed around in the current. He must have tried to swim but eventually was exhausted. At least that's all hubby and I can think of since I fed him only a few hours prior and he was on "his" side and fine.
so sad.
I'll never know for sure that he was a rainbow
