Undergravel Filter with Crushed Coral & Live Sand Substr

I'm curious to know everyones thoughts on my idea. I have an Undergravel filter with Crushed Coral Subtrate. I was curious has anyone every attempted adding an additional layer of Live Sand on top of the Crushed Coral? Any advantages or disadvantages that anyone can think of?

You know what I think about this....

UGF's are really an antiquated method of filtration for SW tanks. They work ok, for a while, until they get plugged up and you have to tear down the tank to clean them...and that's counter-productive to creating a stable, low maintanence tank that doesn't have radical changes made to it.

And yes, the sand will quickly find its way underneath the CC, and that'll cause problems with the UGF working properly. Plus, CC accumulates detris quickly, making it a bit of a nitrate factory unless you very diligently gravel vac the tank weekly.
Also, CC is sharp and totally unsuitable to many species of sand dwelling/sifting creatures.

ditch the UGF, they are used for bio-logical filtration but we have a better way,live rock.
