Has anyone tried a UV filter? Is it worth the investment?
Also, I have a 10g planted tank. What small size filter would someone recommend based on past experience?
Not really necessary. I have tried one in my 55 goldfish tank and never saw a difference. The one thing that stopped my algae blooms was this awesome new food I found. Haven't had any problems since and my fish love it.
UV filters are just a bandaid. If you are having algae issues its going to be due most likely to excess light and if not that then nutrients. Try slowly lifting your lights say 1" at a time and leave it that way for a week or 2 and see if it helps. If not keep raising it. After a few times doing this if you are still dealing with algae then try to do a bit larger or more frequent water changes to remove excess nutrients that the algae is surviving on. Make sure you aren't overfeeding your fish also.
