Versa Tops question

I plan on buying 2 for my 55g tank. I do have 2 HOB filters and wonder if the tops are going to not allow the water to fall into the tank. Ive never bought these before, but Ive had them on a saltwater tank with a built in overflow so I didnt have the filters. Please explain.

They come with a plastic piece that goes in the back. You cut it to fit.

I have the same tops on my 55. It's two glass pieces then a thinner plastic piece that you cut to fit. I have an emperor 350 and it is perfect
