Well I picked up a couple of these things off of Amazon for Xmas, and I am very happy with them. With all of this setup under my tank now, the worst thing that could happen would be a leak in the middle of the night. For $12 this is a great addition to the entire setup.
Here is the one I bought:

And a couple of pics that I took of it.
You basically just lay it on its back, and if any humidity touches those two wires you see along the side and bottom the alarm goes off. Kind of like those little toy chicks that chirp when you touch them to the palm of your hand. It is very sensitive. If you lick your finger and touch it, it will go off.
As far as I can tell, I don't see why they don't sell these at fish stores... Highly recommended...
